November 7th meeting report.
Angela Caine. An evening discovering the professional voice.
First of all apologies for this being late. I've got lots of excuses but no good reason!
I had been looking forward to this session immensely and I really enjoyed it, except we didn't have time to fully explore the subject. (Fat chance in two hours to fully explore anything!)
How wonderful to be part of Angela's passion for the voice. As an NLPer how interesting that Angela can "hear" physical problems in people's voices, down the phone!! (Modelling excellence). As a Therapist, why aren't I doing this too?
Angela engaged audience paticipation well before the start by bringing equipment that needed blowing up and setting up. It all looked great fun and we only had a small chance of playing with the big balloons and the elastic bands. Would you like one of your own? See the note below on a one day course with Angela.
Angela took us through the difference between "classical" music training and the model of the body and voice that she now uses. Every "part" of us is expressed in our voice. It connects us physically, neurologically, emotionally, sexually, socially and intellectually. It expresses our attitudes, fears, values and beliefs. If words are only 7% of the communication, how much are intonation, timbre, volume, and other vocal qualities worth?
Angela's model works from the spring of our spine, down to our feet and up to the top of our head. Her style of voice work is energetic and fun. She had us reading upside down, reading as someone moved the words around, and reading whilst playing with a large elastic band. Two lucky people also had a go at reading whilst bouncing on a large inflated ball! We played with vowel sounds, and read poetry out loud. We nearly got locked in by the cleaning staff, so reluctant were we to leave.
Angela works to help people find the fundamental personal value of their voice, and to become aware of it as one of their own "personal tools". This is surely an area of "personal developement" we could all do with exploring? Angela has put together a one day programme, details below. If you are interested in joining me as one of the nine others drop me an e-mail and I will co-ordinate times and venue.
Thank you Angela for an invigorating and fun evening. For more details or to contact Angela for one to one work go to http://www.voicetraining.co.uk
