Getting past the Filters! An evening with Jonathan Altfeld & Doug O’Brien. I asked for feedback from the audience with this email. Hi Firstly thank you all for joining in with all the 'practice' and making the evening a fun experience. I realise as I type this that I may be inadvertently pre-framing your response! Ooops! Clearly I had a good time! Please take a moment or two to jot down your thoughts and feelings of our evening together in Eastleigh, and send them to me in an email or a.doc attachment. I considered producing a questionnaire but actually would welcome your own unique way of responding to this. Consider what your expectations about the event were and how they were met or otherwise on the evening. Let me know about any little (or LARGE) insights, aha's, connections etc. I may include these in my report, (without mentioning your names), let me know if you would prefer to keep this our little secret. Shoot from the hip with your comments on the Trainers, Doug and Jonathan. I'll collate these responses and pass them on. They are very keen to receive feedback, and I managed to find a bit! I hope you felt welcomed and included, if this didn't happen please tell me. Share with me any other thoughts or ideas you had about this or future events of this sort. I look forward to your replies and our next meeting together. warm regards Nigel Heath It came back like this!! (Names deleted but otherwise almost undoctored!) HI Nigel The Procedural Response The venue excellent Coffee good Biscuits particularly the chocolate ones - superb Lighting - do not like fluorescent-style lighting Greeting - great Colleagues - felt welcome and enjoyed their company Presenters - worked well together
Options Based response Great fun, liked the humour and the quick bonding together of those attending - meant we got more out of the evening. Had a couple of eureka moments as I realised why there is a mismatch in a couple of relationships at the moment. I would like to know where I can get one of those acrylic balls please! Thankyou for providing an informative and professional event Best wishes D.
I found these guys very empathetic and when they were obviously doing a "routine" they made it feel as though they were not doing so!! Obviously I personally have done such a lot of reading around NLP and associated stuff / plus various other things that don't necessarily come up in a straightforward NLP Practitioner course that I have come across the "mind-reading stuff" before BUT it is always good to have it presented (I'm an auditory learner!!!) It is even better to have it presented by someone as good as these guys. My expectation was that the subject sounded interesting and as I hadn't been able to attend for personal reasons for a couple of months I was determined to do so by hook or by crook but maybe it would be a bit business/ management orientated but there you go. HOWEVER as yo can probably guess from my earlier comments I was well chuffed and considered that I got a lot out of it Kind regards A.
As you say a 'fun evening'! Basically a good and useful evening and I picked a few new tips/nuances (eg looking for matching response to metaprogram rather than negative response) - good to practice basics and get feedback. Liked the hypnosis bits and their playful/light style. On the negative side - would have liked either more practice of the basics or more new content. The by-play between the two of them whilst entertaining to a point, did take time that we could have spent learning something new or practising something. Also the explanation and set-up for the acuity exercise was I felt long-winded and again took time we could have spent practising. They were rather heavy on congratulating each other and selling for my taste - ? a bit American for a British audience??! Hope this is useful and thank you very much for organising. Warm wishes, L.
Thx Nigel, it was a good evening My expectations were very high & heightened by the 'mutual admiration society' at the start of evening - for me , the evening did not live up to this - it was 8/10 and I was expecting 11/10 by then !! I liked the gentle and appreciative style they both adopted I also liked the mix between theory & practice - it worked well for me to try it out ASAP I was surprised to learn they have worked together so much as they did not seem to be particularly comfortable with each other during the evening - there seemed to be some underlying tension and/or nervousness there I thought the 'selling' of their products was a little heavy-handed and would have preferred that to be done before/after or during the breaks The audience participation was good but not intrusive - it made me realise that sometimes at NLP-South I feel we have some people (luckily not many !) who simply want to talk a lot (from the audience) regardless of whether they have anything to say - this can sometimes disrupt/derail the session leaders cheers, K.
Hi Nigel, Thanks for organising an excellent evening with Doug and Jonathan. I really enjoyed it and took a number of things away from it. With my trainers hat on: I liked the banter between the two of them - They seem to gel well and compliment each other. I guess I would have liked to have heard a bit more from Doug, but I appreciate that they were alternating who did the main bits each day so as to rest their voices. Occasionally I thought they lapsed into bits of nlp jargon which might have confused some of the inexperienced NLP'rs in the group. I liked the way they preframed the evening, especially the bit about the difference between unfamiliar and uncomfortable. I liked the use of the betty Erikson special to help everyone get into the learning state. With hindsight I think they tried to squeeze a little too much into the evening - (As I write this I know that this is a reflection of a habit of mine too!) I didn't get the impression that they were "circulating" during the exercises - perhaps because of the room layout, but I think it would have been good to do this and to "check in" with individual pairs to see how it was going and to create the opportunity to give a bit of positive feedback and encouragement. I was also interested in their marketing approach which I found Ok - not too hard sell. and prices were reasonable. I found it a good lesson on the importance of having "merchandise" CD's/Tapes etc to sell and can see how this creates a great income stream. I keep thinking about it myself but have not managed to pluck up the courage to try it yet. But this seminar has given me a powerful "kick up the pants" to take some action! With my participant hat on: I enjoyed the content and the delivery, There was a good refresher of some stuff i.e. the yes/no calibration exercises There was useful new stuff i.e the meta programme calibration exercises and the other information gathering calibration where we talked about various options and noted which ones the "client" lit up to. I enjoyed the "finger flick" - learning state visualisation - That was new and very practical. I think the " weakest" or least well explained/demonstrated bit of the evening was the meta programme calibration exercise. I was confused as to which meta programmes we were supposed to be testing - was it just procedures/options or was it towards/away from also. Also when they were role playing this part with each other it was a bit iffy and unprepared. I would have preferred them to have the courage of their convictions and to do a Stage demo with a member of the audience as I think this would have been much more powerful. Overall. I thought it was an excellent evening, with enjoyable dynamic presenters who knew what they were talking about. There was plenty of opportunity to practice too. Well done for organising it. G.
An excellent session as always Nigel. I have to congratulate you to your ability of picking presenters with this level of expertise and skills. I very much enjoyed the evening which was both informative, relaxing and very enjoyable (plenty of laughs). I have an interest in the language patterns and have searched for a way of getting to practise them in a small group, but have not succeeded so far - any thoughts? All the best for NOW, L
